Most people know the Loire grape Sauvignon Blanc but the region has another great white grape, Chenin Blanc. Vouvray is the most prominent region growing Chenin Blanc with wines from bone dry to desert sweet and everything in between. There are also sparkling Vouvray's.
I think this complex identity is one reason the wines are not better known and appreciated here because Chenin Blanc and Vouvray have a lot to offer. Chenin blanc typically makes bigger and more highly perfumed wines than Sauvignon Blanc. Particularly in Vouvray.
This offering from Bourillon Dorleans is a fine example of the dry style that now dominates the region. It has a lovely floral bouquet with a touch of fruit and a long mineral finish. It is great with lighter chicken and fish dishes and a great match with goat cheeses.
