Notes:

Oregon is well known for its Pinot Noirs from the Willamette Valley. They frequently straddle the divide between the fruit forward Pinot’s from California and the more earthy and structured ones from Burgundy. The Willamette isn’t Oregon’s wine growing valley. Further south is the Umpqua Valley. The terrain is a little steeper and many of the vineyards are at a higher elevation.

Brandborg’s “Benchlands”, 2016 Pinot Noir is a good expression of the terrior with a bit more earthiness and some cedar notes supporting more subtle fruit. It inches closer to the Burgundy style while still being clearly from Oregon. It goes well with game meats, bolder poultry and cheeses.
